Research Question
How do human activities modify the way coastal ecosystems function?
I am responsible for monitoring macrobenthic communities in several areas of the Belgian Part of the North Sea, including the Princess Elisabeth Island concession zone, the Westdiep Sea Farm, and the Fisheries Exclusion Zone. My work involves conducting field sampling, processing and identifying benthic fauna, and analysing the resulting data to assess how human activities influence benthic biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.
